Ok so end of February a Facebook post was forwarded to me by a friend...it was from a lady urgently looking for to rehome her puppy.

Scammers pry on the vulnerabilities of others in my case...an animal needing a home. With the exception of Moana and Blue I got two previous pets through a similar call and this wasn't going to be any different and boy was I wrong. ๐๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ณ๐๐น ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐บ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ…from Facebook and phishing emails to text messages about claiming your package.

Ask for due diligence information, can I see some ID please?
Proof of address and have video calls not just audio calls.
If there's urgency surrounding the matter do not by into it, especially if they say they already dropped the puppy off at the transport agency on the way to the hospital.
Pay on invoice and via Visa at least this way you may be able (with evidence) to work with your card provided to retrieve some of your money back.
I parted with $900 to try and rehome a puppy, $350 for the transport fee, and then next for a refundable, aviation approved cage of $550 to ship the puppy in it. The request for a further $950 to complete the registration for my invisible puppy who was due to be delivered to my place half an hour earlier. She was flying on an invisible flight to Kerikeri airport that night 
is what did it for me....
I know of people that have lost thousands and thousands of $$ for similar or other reasons. The thing I quickly picked up on was, the person calling me was a man with a heavy foreign accent, had an American phone number a rep for this internationally renown pet delivery service, was the same person pretending to be the lady messaging me through Messenger and the same person emailing me about the costs.
Long story short, there are @ssholes out there who get off on conning people so be careful with who you respond to online or via mobile calls. ๐ ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฝ ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ because you will need to submit them to your bank, the Police and NetSafe the agency in NZ who is responsible for capturing fraudulent activities.
